Text 30 Jan 2 notes MOVING FORWARD

Posted in MOBTHE365:

One year, 365 days…365 pictures. It was January 31 and I committed to taking at least one picture a day for a year and thus, 365 was born. It was something that I had always wanted to do and after life got complicated and my world changed, I felt that the time was now.

So the obvious question…why take one picture a day for a year??????

I started 365 because I had lost my brother and my world turned upside down. I was angry, confused, bitter, and hurting. I was searching for something, anything, to express outwardly what was going on in the inside. I had two choices, become hardened and just give up or find that one thing everyday that I could be grateful for and move forward.

I was reminded of a young man I had met in my trip to Africa a few years ago. I noticed that he was out in the big front yard so I approached him. When I asked what he was doing he said he was taking care of roses and planting new ones. He went on to tell me that his mother had love to plant and care for roses. She had passed away some years ago and he said by caring and planting roses he remembered her, kept her memory alive, and in turn kept him alive and moving forward.

I chose to find one thing everyday that moved, challenged, and inspired me, something that kept me moving forward, knowing that by living everyday and finding the beauty of that day I honored my brothers life and memory.
